Athletes Breast Augmentation Revision

One of our favorite patients, this 43 year young fitness competitor came to us from Miami. She had previously undergone breast augmentation with saline implants, as she was advised that Gummy Bear implants were ineffective in “muscular women”.

She had never been happy with her previous augmentation, as she felt that the saline implants never integrated well with her body, and she felt like they were “fake and foreign”.

She found us through a fellow IFBB competitor, who also underwent a revision breast augmentation. Upon our analysis, we felt that her implant did not accentuate her incredible physique as it should. We proceeded with bilateral partial capsulectomies, placement of biologic mesh along the lateral border for support, and placement of an ultrahigh ultracohesive gel implant. Recovery from the procedure was three days.

Again, we employed a progressive training regiment postoperatively, and she was back at her regular training level by six weeks following surgery. The implant was placed using an inframammary approach, and we used a 455cc Ultra High Profile Mentor implant.

This specific case is unique in that the patient has a remarkable physique, but only stands 5’1 inches tall. Given her smaller frame dimensions, body fat index of 12%, and a remarkable demand for functionality of the pectoralis muscle, implant choice and pocket creation must be exact. We specifically tailored her capsulectomy to the upper and medial poles to create better fullness, but maintained capsule support and then supported it laterally with biologic mesh to prevent the implant from sliding back into the armpit. Results are shown at 1 year following surgery.
