Ultherapy is truly unique

It remains the only noninvasive, FDA approved device on the market to lift tissue on the brow, submental area, and neck and improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the décolletage. Ultherapy delivers highly focused ultrasound energy into different precise depths to denature collagen beneath the skin’s surface leading to a true foundational lift in just one visit. Ultherapy improves skin by heating the deeper layers of your skin, allowing for new collagen production. By directing energy into separate skin layers with a single treatment, Ultherapy is capable of improving collagen production with a single treatment. Ultherapy is also unique in allowing us to be able to visualize the depths of your skin and see which layer we are treating. This means that we can precisely treat at three different depths and one of these called the the SMAS layer, is the same depth that surgeons operate at for facelifts.

We can heat tissue for optimal collagen stimulation and neocollegeneis at 60-70 F. Ultherapy is truly a collagen creator. Ultherapy is a 10+ year technology with 6 consecutive award winning skin tightening treatments by New Beauty. Most importantly, it’s completely backed by science. In general, Ultherapy treatments take about an hour but, may require more or less time depending on the size and complexity of the area being treated. The procedure is completely noninvasive, allowing for a gradual increase in skin collagen over time. This collagen has the effect of lifting and tightening your skin, improving your skin’s appearance, and reducing the effects of facial aging. This treatment is revolutionary because its noninvasive, while delivering a similar outcome seen with some other laser therapy procedures.

Ultherapy is approved for use in the human brow and forehead, face, neck, and décolletage. It is not FDA approved for use in the abdomen or flanks, but it is used routinely in these areas as an off-label use.

Ultherapy for Midface and Lower Face

Ultherapy is also highly effective in the midface and lower face areas. It offers a soft elevation of sagging tissue, improved Type I collagen for 4-12 months after treatment, and elevates tissue as time progresses.

While skin tightening is always an important component of aesthetics, it does not replace the importance of overall facial structure. Patients will commonly experience improvements in the midface and lower 1/3 of the face with Ultherapy, but it will not improve descent of deeper facial structures. As such, Ultherapy is not a replacement for surgical facelift. Rather, it is designed to be used in an earlier patient setting, offering less effect than surgery, but maintaining overall structure before it declines over time. Because of this, Ultherapy is commonly used in the 30-55 year old range, as in this range, it can provide transformative results.

Ultherapy has received New Beauty Magazine's skin tightening treatment awards for 6 consecutive years.

Ultherapy for Décolletage

Ultherapy stimulates collagen production.

The other main area of impact Ultherapy has on our patients is the décolletage. Sun lovers rejoice!! Ultherapy has been shown to markedly reduce the appearance of those wavy line that develop in the chest area. While laser therapy has been used in the past effectively for this, it requires four to seven treatments, and requires downtime due to the surface effects of the energy.

With Ultherapy, patients can be treated only once or twice without any significant downtime, and still get the same result!! This offers us another quantum leap forward in nonsurgical aesthetics, and we are proud to be the only board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to offer patients in Vero Beach Ultherapy.

Who is getting Ultherapy?

More people than you think!! Ultherapy has been ranked by New Beauty® Magazine as the “Best of Beauty Choice Award of the Year” for three years in a row (2014, 2015, and 2016). It has been featured on numerous television shows, social media, and reality television shows in the last two years. Most recently, it was shown on the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”. It has been featured on every major television channel in the United States at one time or another, has graced nearly every major print publication from Harper’s Bazaar to the New York Times.

As Ultherapy offers natural replacement of collagen without surface ablation or injury, it is easy to see why it has become a mainstay of Hollywood celebrities and public figures in a short period of time. Ultherapy does not alter your facial structure, it only improves skin quality and skin collagen. It is safe, reliable, and it can be done with absolutely minimal downtime. Whether its being used for maintenance of previous work, or as a route to prevent surgery, Ultherapy has safely and effectively treated over 400,000 people, providing noticeable results over the course of three to six months after therapy.

Comfort with ProNox

Once we define the best possible approach for you, our goal is to deliver the finest possible result with the least amount of discomfort. Our Ultherapy platform is equipped with both the Amplify Software Package, and the new DeepSea® ultrasound visualization capability. These two new advances in Ultherapy allow us to get you the best possible treatment with the least amount of discomfort.

However, everyone has different sensitivities to pain. Some people have high thresholds for pain tolerance while others wince at the mere thought of any pain. We want everyone to feel as comfortable as possible during the treatment. So, when receiving Ultherapy Vero Beach patients sometimes prefer to have some form of pain control. Our most common combination is Ativan with Vicodin/Oxycodone, or Valium with Vicodin/Oxycodone. Therapy itself is readily tolerated with appropriate oral pain control. Results begin to evolve at 30 days, with improvements often being seen for over 3-4 years.

Ultherapy Treatment Areas

Once our treatment and comfort plans are in place, Ultherapy is delivered in an indulgent spa setting at our beachside office.

The treatment itself can be directed to any area on the body with loose, or under-performing skin. The most common areas treated are the brow/forehead, midface, lower face and neck, and décolletage. Clinical studies have shown over an 86% satisfaction rate with Ultherapy for brow elevation, with the treatment generating nearly 2 millimeters of brow lift without any surgery or downtime.

We believe that Ultherapy offers a distinct advantage over surgery to patients with mild or moderate brow ptosis (low or hanging brow). While surgery is still needed for advanced cases of ptosis, Ultherapy is able to produce excellent nonsurgical results in patients with mild to moderate brow heaviness without any surface skin damage or downtime.

Does Ultherapy Work?

In a word, yes. In an appropriately selected and treated client, Ultherapy can offer outstanding results, especially when combined with other synergistic treatments. Gallery offered below.

This is a nice example of brow elevation on a 46 year old female. A single treatment was undertaken. Three month result is shown.

Ultherapy before and after

A 68 year old Caucasian female who complexed Ultherapy with upper eyelid blepharoplasty to achieve a beautiful elevation of the brow in combination with an eyelid lift, and re-definition of the upper eyelid cleft.

Ultherapy before and after

A 36 year old female with premature brow descent. Result of brow lift shown at 16 months after one treatment with Ultherapy.

Ultherapy before and after

A forty-five year old female who wanted lower face and neck rejuvenation. After one treatment, there is a marked reduction in neck lines, and good elevation of the neck skin. Results shown at three months from treatment.

Ultherapy before and after

One of our more common treatment scenarios, this young lady wanted to invest in her long-term appearance with Ultherapy. Results after one treatment to lower face and neck are shown at 6 months. As you can see, she has a nice, natural elevation and tightening to her lower face and neck. Excellent result.

Ultherapy before and after

Men commonly seek out Ultherapy for tightening of the lower face and neck. It is uncommon for men to request brow tightening, as most men are comfortable with a lower brow position. The jaw-line, and neckline, however, are avidly treated in men with Ultherapy. Due to thicker skin, men commonly require two treatments with Ultherapy, but due to their skin thickness, tend to get excellent, long lasting results when appropriately treated.

Ultherapy before and after

Ultherapy offers superior results in removing skin lines from the décolletage. As compared to laser counterparts, Ultherapy can produce similar results with 1-2 treatments without surface damage or the need for wound care. We commonly provide Ultherapy resurfacing to this area, and then provide light based therapy to remove sun damage spots, and discolorations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Much does Ultherapy Cost?

The cost of therapy depends upon the area treated and the desired effect you wish to achieve. Consultations for Ultherapy, as with all facial and skin care consultations, are complimentary. All clients meet with Dr. Durkin and our medical spa providers at the time of their visit. Prior to therapy, all patients undergo complimentary Reveal Camera® Skin Analysis to define overall skin quality, and refine our approach with Ultherapy. As we proceed with therapy, repeat analyses are taken to ensure therapy progression, or define the need for more treatment. General, ballpark only pricing guidelines are shown below, but each quote is subject to change depending on your examination, and your desired endpoints.

Does Ultherapy reduce my risk of skin cancer? Does it increase it?

Ultherapy does not increase or decrease the risk of skin cancers of any type. Furthermore, it has been deemed safe and approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for treatment of the human brow, face, neck, and décolletage.

How often are people treated with Ultherapy?

The majority of patients treated with Ultherapy only require one session for the face, brow, and neck. Some patients may require a second treatment, but this is uncommon. Patients receiving therapy for the décolletages may require more than one treatment.

Who performs Ultherapy?

Natural facial aesthetics and facial beauty are concepts, and cannot be provided or removed by a machine. As with every patient, Dr. Durkin will create a comprehensive treatment plan with you at your time of consultation. This treatment plan may involve skin care, injectables, Ultherapy, rhinoplasty, or any number of interventions. It may or may not include Ultherapy. If, however, Ultherapy is a clinical option for you, your treatment strategy will be developed by Dr. Durkin, and delivered by Penny or Amanda in a safe, luxurious spa setting. For patients requesting anesthesia, or patients with medical issues, our on-site surgery center offers comprehensive anesthetic capabilities with the latest in safety and monitoring technology. Patients who receive anesthesia services on site will be monitored according to surgical safety protocols present at our Vero Beach Plastic Surgery practice, and approved by the State of Florida Board of Health. Oral anesthesia is prescribed by Dr. Durkin prior to therapy if it is necessary. Patients may request further anesthesia services, which we are happy to provide.

What can I expect after treatment with Ultherapy?

Ultherapy is designed to produce internal neocollagenesis by using focused ultrasound to produce heat internally within the human dermis. It provides this effect without any surface damage!! As such, there is literally minimal downtime. Some patients report light swelling that occurs for 1-3 days, but this is uncommon. This procedure is very popular on Thursdays and Fridays. Patients get treated, and go back to work looking great on Monday.

Is Ultherapy a standalone treatment, or can it be combined with other treatments?

We find that our best nonsurgical results are found when we are able to blend the best components of different treatment modalities to generate results, and Ultherapy is no different. We offer multiple treatment packages combining ultherapy with lasers, light based therapies, skin care, neuromodulators, dermal fillers, and other regimens. Lastly, we like to combine all of our facelift procedures with Ultherapy at 1 year postoperatively to maintain your overall surgical result, as well as maintain soft, healthy, vibrant skin.

Is Ultherapy is substitute for a facelift or a necklift?

No. Absolutely not. Ultherapy is designed to improve collagen production, improve fine lines and wrinkles in the skin, and elevate superficial soft tissue. It is not designed to elevate deep structures, shorten the platysma, or remove jowling. Ultherapy is directed at the skin itself to improve skin quality and position. Facial plastic surgery is designed to improve the overall shape and structure of the face. Skin quality is not universally improved by facelifting. Only the facial anatomy and its structure are improved by surgery. Rejuvenation of skin quality requires energy based therapies, such as laser therapy, Ultherapy, microneedling, certain forms of skin care, and injectable therapies. Because of this, we commonly and routinely combine Ultherapy with surgical and nonsurgical interventions. By maximizing the best components of different modalities, we are able to create harmonious, natural, and graceful facial outcomes with a minimum of downtime.
